Nice Guy's Don't Win? Incline Village Real Estate
Nice Guys Don't Win was a talking point on a morning national television show today. Say what?
Having been living this reality in Incline Village lately, this morning I heard on a national television morning news show that being nice may not always pay off! The message was that "nice guys" do not always win, and that saying thank you and please at work may not pay off. They went on to say that the more aggressive tougher and even rude people were likely the ones to be picked for promotion and higher pay.
Excuse me, but I had not been aware that saying please or thank you or perhaps holding a door open for someone was a sign of weakness. I must have missed that memo! Today's tough economic times seems to have brought out the worst in many people's behavior. I certainly have seen this trend in my industry - listing and selling real estate. Our Code of Ethics has not changed, but some people must have forgotten that important mandate to professional behavior. As Realtors we have to be excellent communicators, aggressive in marketing and great at follow up and paying attention to detail.
Nice guys can and do win but they must also be hard working and aggressive at doing a good an excellent job. Hire the right Realtor, even one of the nice guys!
Here's my thought, if we, as Realtors and others in the real estate industry, always do at least the following ten things, we will always come out on top of our game and our clients will also be winners. Buyers and sellers of homes want a professional but I honestly believe they still want a nice person. No one likes a rude Realtor who is more impressed with themselves than in what they can do for the client.
