Get ready for round two.

A wave of energy spinning from a trough of low pressure anchored off the California coast is poised to bring another burst of heavy snow to the Sierra this afternoon and Friday.

Snow showers this morning will intensify into steady snow by this afternoon and tonight. This system is tapping into more than two inches of precipitable water, which should translate into another two feet of snow above 7000 feet, possibly more. Snow levels will remain below 3000 feet today, but the system is forecast to pivot to the north as it moves inland Friday, and as it does, snow levels will rise back to about 5000 feet. But the entire Tahoe Basin should see snow, not rain, for the duration of the event into Saturday.

This system was tracking south of Tahoe until the most recent runs of the computer forecast models, and it still looks to deliver its strongest energy there. For the Basin, look for the heaviest snow to fall toward the south side, but there still should be plenty of new snow throughout the region. The system will finally push east and depart by Saturday.

Sunday still looks like a possible bluebird day, with some lingering, scattered showers possible, especially in the morning.

Another storm on track for Monday now appears more likely to remain off the coast of California, far enough into the Pacific to keep it from delivering more snow to the region.
